Shadi Mawari is a grassroots advocate, community leader, and proud graduate of Dearborn Public Schools. Born to immigrant parents, Shadi moved to Dearborn in 2007 and has called the city home ever since. Growing up in Dearborn taught him the power of opportunity, service, and unity — values that have guided his path ever since.

Shadi earned his Associate of Science degree from Henry Ford College, his Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Wayne State University, and his Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan, where he also served as the Population and Health Sciences Chair for the Public Health Student Assembly.

Throughout his academic and professional journey, Shadi has remained committed to building healthier, stronger communities. He has worked across healthcare administration, workforce development, and public health, leading initiatives that expand access to care, promote economic opportunity, and improve quality of life for others.

During his tenure as President of the Yemeni Student Association at Wayne State University, Shadi helped organize the first-ever collaborative fundraising dinner bringing together students from Wayne State University, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, the University of Detroit Mercy, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and Michigan State University. Under his leadership, YSA raised over $25,000 in humanitarian aid for Yemen.

Shadi’s leadership extends beyond the workplace. He continues to volunteer with organizations dedicated to justice and equity and has a proven record of bringing people together across backgrounds and institutions to drive meaningful change. Shadi has also been involved in numerous local campaigns, always working to amplify community voices and advocate for positive change at the local level.

During his time as a Project Coordinator for Detroit’s JumpStart program, Shadi played a key role in engaging residents back into the workforce. Through his work, Shadi helped individuals gain access to career readiness workshops, skills training, and employment services — empowering them to build better futures for themselves and their families.

Currently, Shadi works in healthcare administration at PACE Southeast Michigan, an organization dedicated to helping seniors live independently and avoid nursing home placement. In his role, he leads interdisciplinary team meetings, coordinates participant care, and supports daily center operations to ensure that seniors receive the services and respect they deserve. His work at PACE has deepened his commitment to creating a Dearborn where seniors can age with dignity and support.

Shadi is running for Dearborn City Council to bring a new generation of leadership rooted in community. His campaign is built on a commitment to promoting public health, addressing public safety challenges like reckless driving, ensuring inclusive representation for all neighborhoods, supporting small businesses, and providing better services for Dearborn’s growing elderly population.

Shadi believes leadership starts with listening. He is determined to be a Council member who is accessible, responsive, and tireless in his work to make Dearborn a healthier, safer, and more vibrant place for everyone.

🗳️Shadi’s Vision

  • I will champion local health initiatives, expand access to wellness resources, and work to create a healthier, more resilient Dearborn for all—especially in historically impacted neighborhoods like the Southend. Our environment is a critical part of our public health. I will advocate for cleaner air, safer neighborhoods, more green spaces, and sustainable development. That includes pushing for rezoning that stops the further industrialization of residential areas and prioritizes long-term livability.

  • Reckless driving is a public safety crisis. I will push for stronger enforcement, culturally competent safety campaigns, smart street redesigns, and increased accountability in prosecution. I also support the idea of deploying undercover units at high-risk intersections. Additionally, I am committed to reducing emergency response times to ensure that help reaches residents when they need it most. I will also advocate for addressing the opioid crisis and expanding access to mental health services across the city.

  • In my current role in healthcare administration at PACE Southeast Michigan, I help seniors live independently outside of nursing homes. I will bring that same care and dedication to city policy, ensuring that our elderly residents receive the services, resources, and dignity they deserve to thrive in their golden years.

  • As the first-generation son of immigrant parents, I grew up watching my father build his small business from the ground up. I know the value of entrepreneurship and what it means to chase the American Dream. On council, I will fight to lower startup taxes, increase access to grants and funding, and reduce bureaucratic red tape so that Dearborn remains a welcoming place for small businesses to grow and succeed.

  • Our local government must work for the people, not behind closed doors. I will push for transparent processes, clear communication, and accountability at every level of decision-making so that residents always know what’s happening and how it impacts them.

  • As a proud graduate of Dearborn Public Schools, I know this community’s strength firsthand. I am committed to fair, inclusive representation across every neighborhood—West, East, or Southend. No matter where you live, your voice matters. I don’t want to be just another politician—I want to be someone you can call, talk to, or grab a cup of coffee with. I promise to work tirelessly to uplift the needs of all residents and be a council member who listens and leads with compassion.
